Diamond Drilling Millenium Dome London

Millenium Dome

The Millennium Dome is a dome shaped structure built on the south bank of the River Thames in Greenwich to house the millennium experience, a major exhibition celebrating the beginning of the third millennium. The structure consists of a unique 320mm diameter fabric covered dome suspended from twelve 90m steel masts by over 70Km of high tensile steel cable.

Concrete was used extensively on site including 8000 concrete piles supporting the 80,000 sqm floor slab and the mast bases. A 6m wide 0.5m deep ring beam takes the horizontal and vertical forces from the network of support cables.

CODICUTS commenced on site after the first concrete pour for the ring beam to commence cutting serve holes. A 6 man team from the company were then remained on site for the duration of the works until after the doors to the public were opened in August 1998. Work carried out cutting all the holes for services, anchors and ventilation. Large diameter holes were drilled for the vertical shaft that was incorporated into the Domes structure for the Blackwall tunnel over which the structure was built.
